Azealia Banks on the Cover of Dazed & Confused SEPTEMBER ISSUE: AZEALIA BANKS BLOWS UP

I read on the train today that this cover was banned in four countries! Also, plenty of members of press associations in various countries where the cover was not banned have criticized Dazed for using such an “inflammatory” and “controversial” image.

The editor of Dazed said that they didn’t see how a young woman taking charge of her sexuality, and actually doing so using an object that promotes SAFE sex, was controversial or inflammatory in any way.

All parties forgot to factor in the fact that Mz Banks is a young black woman, so I guess the inflammatory part is that here is a young black woman taking charge of HER OWN body and her own sexuality, right? Cos there sure as FUCK are plenty of images of black women being objectified and oversexualised by white men that no one seems to be up in arms about.

But anyway, go ahead media, fail to dissect the root of this controversy (hint: that’s YOU) and choose instead to flap about like headless chickens crying obscenity.
