Maybe I’m just missing something. I’ve never understood.
Anon please.

what a homophobic asshole! They’re showing their PRIDE for being gay/lesbian!!! Obviously you don’t understand because your so close-mined and you DON’T WANT TO understand. FUCK OFF!

I don’t think this person meant to come across as a homophobe or anything, they’re just trying to understand why you’d parade around in speedos.
Personally I agree, there are plenty of other ways to show you’re proud of who you are and your sexuality than wearing skimpy clothes like that.
To me, the concept of parades for sexuality is odd, I support LGBT but if we had a straight parade everybody would kick off big time.

Personally, I don’t think people should judge others for how they choose to display their sexuality. Straight women show off their bodies as a way of expressing their sexuality (though in a different context,) so why can’t these gay men?
The reasons we don’t have “Straight Pride Parades” is because there’s no shameful context with being straight. We don’t have to hide it from our families that we’re straight, it doesn’t hurt our job opportunities, people aren’t trying to keep us from being married/adopting children, our sexuality isn’t a sin, ect. To try and say that making a “straight pride parade” would be the same as LGBT is silly; we already get to flaunt who we are to the world; LGBT and GSM people not so much.
Your reply, though I think unintentional, rang not only of slut shaming (the “skimpy” clothes quip) but also of faux ally. It’s not the place of straight people to determine how LGBT and GSM people express themselves or present themselves sexually. We don’t get a say in how they conduct themselves in their pride parades because that’s THEIR space. If we’re going to be allies, we have to realize this and stand in solidarity with the people we’re supporting, NOT judging and questioning a space we neither understand or belong in.
{EDIT: and we have to remember that it’s not gay people’s jobs to “convince” us that we should support them; it should be automatic, not under conditions.}

I didn’t mean to slut shame, it’s just I don’t think it’s necessary (although you’re right, I can’t tell them what to do and if they want to and feel confident? more power to them) to walk around in speedos. And I’m not a fake supporter of gay rights (if that’s what faux ally is, I mean), I legitimately do want us all to be equal, I just think there are better ways of showing yourself and your support and stuff.
And skimpy clothing wasn’t a quip or a joke, it’s a fact that speedos/bikinis/whatever are skimpy and show off skin, I didn’t say that was necessarily a bad thing.

honestly, never come near me and my queer friends. ever. cause you are still slut shaming, acting like you got a problem with speedos. your problem, not theres. cause you are still saying we deserve to be treated less than because of “there are better ways to do it”.fuck you bitch. you don’t have any love for queer people or rights. you don’t believe we are equal or should be. or else you wouldn’t be saying this. for real. never come to queer events, ally shit, nothing. bye. just go.

bolded for fuckin’ emphasis.
gtfo.
the gay folks who prance around naked aren’t the ones who cause support for the gay community to go down; it’s all y’all slut shamin’ assholes who tell us “either you assimilate and become homonormative pricks or we hate you”.
you are not an ally. do not pass go. do not collect $200. bye-bye, now!
